Omar Marcos - Writing

WRITING

You may have realized by now that I enjoy writing. The testament to that can be found on nearly every page throughout this site. You can likely attribute my tendencies to the quality of the teachers & professors who vigorously encouraged writing. Or perhaps it's also partly a reflection of years of practice and years of journaling my own Bible study notes.
Either way, here's a brief glimpse into just a sampling of a few writing endeavors:

TOPICS

COPYWRITING

On a few occasions, I've written text for various brochures, promo materials, & websites. While I don't have the finely-tuned skills that an established copywriter would have, here's a sample of marketing-style text for a self-promotional piece of mine designed to complement the accompanying visuals.

BLOG : POLITICS + TECHNOLOGY + FAITH

Most of my writing has been in the form of commentary concerning political & cultural issues, as well as certain tech topics. And yes, I previously failed to mention that occasionally I also cover faith & spirituality. If you'd care to take a look, the most recent form of my blog can be found at this website:

WRITING SAMPLES

I heard recently that many atheists embrace the writings of Friedrich Nietzsche, especially praising his arguments against Christianity & the BIble. I realize there are more intelligent people out there than me, and I'm sure someone at some point has already at least touched upon some of the counter-arguments I'll present in the following paragraphs. But it would seem a shame to leave some of those sordid accusations against my faith unanswered… IN DEFENSE OF CHRISTIANITY

PROSE + POETRY

And I've also been known to pen other types of works, and below is just one example. (Don't worry, I promise I won't share my haikus from elementary school…)

WORDS

This piece was written as part of a graduate student's allegorical film eventually entered in a local film festival.

Ten shadows pierce the stillness; twice as many
      wounds and ever-present, ever-burning scars.

Words. Irretrievable. Imperfect.
Insignificant?

I alone, with cold, careless syllables,
wrecked the span that stretched between us: a deep divide.
A withering. A paralysis. A forever bleeding.
Light we shared, remnants of yesterday,
echoes bitterly, echoes endlessly in my mind.
Irretrievable.

My words are lost, unreachable,
gripped by this unforgiving river and its raging tide.
A bottle. A capsule. A message within.
Irretrievable.

Ten words pierce the stillness; yet only One,
two are needed to begin again.
