The contact sheet images above provide a glimpse of my first piece ever featured in a gallery setting. Unfortunately, these hastily shot pics I later took for a film photography class are all that remain of that sculpture.
Of course in grade school I didn't really quite grasp the significance of concepts such as the struggle of man (or woman) vs. his (or her) immediate environment or why artists employ exaggeration in their depictions of the human figure (…and I'm still not sure I totally get it!) Along with my fellow students, I simply followed our instructor's general guidance when creating this piece. And perhaps the key structural element of this sculpture held greater significance than I could have perceived back then. Because I find it interesting that after shifting my focus from art to graphic design and getting involved with other extracurricular activities over the years, I'm again beginning to delve back into the fine arts. Life truly has a way of bringing us back full circle.
