Omar Marcos - Fine Art - Magical Realism

MAGICAL REALISM  −  Around the middle of the 20th century Latin American artists and writers began a movement that creatively blended realism with various components of fantasy. Since then, numerous artists, filmmakers, & writers have employed this style to make political statements, to advance a storyline, to express personal pain, or to highlight the ills of society. (…While some art scholars contend that all this had its roots in Germany's New Objectivity movement that led critic Franz Roh to originally introduce the phrase "magical realism" in 1925 *, my art showcased here won't coincide with the dark & violent depictions of that period. Instead, this section will be brighter in tone and hopefully thought-provoking as well, infused at times with a touch of gravitas and at other times with a portion of light-hearted humor.)
